For history is a pattern of timeless moments.

Debut solo exhibition as a part of HIC Services, Bynon Family and The Creator Incubator scholarship (19/3/2022). All photographs by Stuart Marlin.

Reflecting of the times and spaces belonging to others, these works explore the historical fusion of Catholic church and the working class in our area. Growing up within an Irish Catholic and working-class Newcastle family, I wanted to depict the Catholic reminders so often decorated in the homes of my grandparent's era. These icons were not chosen for their beauty or aesthetic, but as a reminder to live a good Catholic life. These images are almost comforting to me now, not for their religious ties, but for their sentimental ties to my childhood.

Now that I am older, I can't help but think back to some of those images hanging on the walls in houses I visited and the people who lived there. I sometimes wonder whether they were actually hanging there as a reminder, or whether their meaning had been forgotten. Were they just another piece of furniture?
